Tom VanOsdol Elected Chair of FHA Board of Trustees

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida Hospital Association is excited to announce that its membership has approved new Board of Trustees officers. The Florida Hospital Association has been instrumental in the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the new Board officers’ leadership, the association will remain at the forefront of Florida’s health care advocacy efforts.

Governed by its Board of Trustees, the Florida Hospital Association member institutions elected the following officers at the 2021 Annual Business Meeting.

Board of Trustees Chair Tom VanOsdol currently serves as president and CEO of Ascension Florida and Gulf Coast. VanOsdol’s career with Ascension began in 1990 as a speech pathologist in Indiana. Since then, he has held several administrative and executive leadership roles throughout the Ascension health system in Indiana and Florida since 2015. He has served on the FHA Board of Trustees for over four years.

Bo Boulenger, Vice-chair/Chair-elect, is currently the president and COO of Baptist Health South Florida. Boulenger began his career with Baptist Health in 1985, and in the years since, he has risen through the ranks before taking the role of Baptist Hospital CEO in 2006. Boulenger has more than 30 years of health care administration experience and has served nearly two years on the FHA Board.

Board Treasurer Gino R. Santorio is the president and CEO of Mount Sinai Medical Center. Previously CEO of Broward Health, Santorio has more than 14 years of executive health care experience. Santorio is in his 2nd year on the FHA Board of Trustees.

Immediate Past Chair Steve Johnson is president and CEO of Health First. Johnson served as Chair of the Board of Trustees from October 2020 until October 2021. He has 30 years of clinical and management experience and a proven track record of successfully bringing together a diverse healthcare system, and a commitment to improving the health of the entire community. Johnson has served on the FHA board for over six years.

In addition to the election of Board officers, members elected two members to serve second terms. Tommy Inzina, CEO of BayCare Health System (left), and Dr. Larry Antonucci, CEO of Lee Health (right), will continue their service to the FHA board through 2022.

All Board officers were elected to serve a one-year term.

“We are grateful to have the support of significant health care leaders in our state to serve on the FHA Board of Trustees,” said Mary Mayhew president, and CEO of FHA. “Between their individual talents and decades of collective institutional knowledge, our Board officers and trustees will be instrumental in steering the work of this association to advance critical health care goals regarding timely access to services, addressing our health care workforce shortages, and improving the system of care for individuals in need of mental health services along with other important health care goals. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
The Florida Hospital Association recently hired Juliet Hauser as director of communications. She was previously a senior account executive with the public relations firm Sachs Media. Savannah Kelly, who had been director of communications, is now director of external affairs for Governor DeSantis. Tim Jacques, deputy director of communications, joined the association after five years with the Florida Department of Transportation.
