FHA Hospital Update:

The following information is being released by the Florida Hospital Association from a survey of hospitals completed Thursday, August 5, 2021. This survey reflects responses from hospitals representing 75% of Florida’s acute care hospital beds.

  • COVID-19 patients in ICU: 20% (steady from Monday)
  • COVID-19 patients on ventilator: 14% (steady from Monday)
  • COVID-19 patients transferred from nursing homes/long-term care: 2.6% (steady from Monday)
  • Hospitals expecting critical staffing shortage in next 7 days: 60% (steady from Monday)
  • Hospitals expanding into non-care areas in next 7 days: 27% (4% increase from Monday)

“COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida have doubled in the last two weeks, with younger healthier individuals getting COVID-19 and being hospitalized,” said Mary C. Mayhew, President and CEO, Florida Hospital Association. “Of the more than 10.5 million fully vaccinated Floridians, approximately 0.019% are currently in our hospitals being treated for COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccination is clearly a lifesaver.”

The Florida Hospital Association will continue communicating with all Florida hospitals and state officials and provide additional updates as events warrant.
